Happy Friday everyone! I hope your week went by fast and you got most of your to-do list done! As most of you know, I work from home for my “real job” 😉 and that can get kind of monotonous. Sometimes I would like to put on real clothes and brush my hair. This week one of my sweet new blogger girlfriends (check her out – Miss Molly Moon) asked me if I wanted to work at a coffee shop and OMG it was just what I needed!
I have been fighting some nasty head cold for the past few days and just couldn’t find any relief. I ordered a huge Medicine Ball Tea from Starbucks on my way to meet my friend and WOW it was so good I ordered a second one on my way home! It really cleared up my sinuses and was the perfect drink to warm me up! If you feel a cold coming on, run to Starbucks and order this tea! It’s sometimes called the Cold Buster as well.
Now to some items currently on my wish list… I have been craving everything cozy for the cold weather we are finally getting in Georgia. This pretty shoulder bag is a dupe for the Chloe bag for a very small fraction of the price! I really want this eyeshadow palette because I feel like I would never have to buy eyeshadow ever again. The colors are all GORGEOUS and you just can’t beat the price!
I walked into a local boutique and fell IN LOVE with an oversized corduroy shearling-lined biker jacket and I just couldn’t justify the $200 price tag. I found this one that looks almost identical for under $70 and I may just need to grab it!
I think the #1 question that I get asked is who does my hair. The second is how I keep it so blonde when only get it done once or twice a year. If you have color treated blonde hair, you absolutely HAVE to have some purple toning products in your hair care regimen. I have several must-have products I use weekly and I highly recommend all of them! My hair is naturally very, very dark and I wanted a soft, blended ombre into icy, dull grey-blonde. It is so difficult to achieve if you have dark hair, but my hair surprisingly lightened up very easily.
At first, I didn’t use any purple toning products and my hair started to turn a little brassy and I wasn’t as happy with it. I went to my nearest Ulta and stocked up!
Blonde Sexy Hair Blonde Shampoo: I was looking for a few things in my purple shampoo: dark purple pigment, moisturizing, and sulfate-free. This shampoo is AMAZING. I have heard that toning shampoos can really dry out your hair, but with this one that isn’t the case! It leaves my hair SO insanely soft. It’s a bit pricey, but I have had this same bottle for almost a year now (side note: I only wash my hair once or twice a week so it lasts me forever).
Kenra Professional Brightening Treatment: I ran to Ulta as soon as this stuff came out and it is my FAVE toning product. The pigment is so dark it is almost black and it really does make a huge difference! After shampooing and conditioning my hair, I put this on only the end (since my blonde is only at the ends) and let it sit for at least 5 minutes. I just put on some Moana and JAM while I let this stuff work its magic! 🙂
Pravana The Perfect Blonde Leave-In Treatment: I have talked about this stuff before in this post here and it really is that awesome. After I get out of the shower and brush my hair, I spray the generously on the ends and then blow dry it. One time I accidentally skipped a week and I really noticed some brassy tones starting to peek through. Make sure you shake the bottle well before every use!
I will sometimes substitute my Kenra toning treatment for this treatment since I bought both and they’re both pretty comparable in price and work well. I have heard amazing things about this purple toning blow out balm but it is a really tiny bottle for $10. If I end up testing it I will let you guys know! I use a combo of all of these products every hair wash to make sure my hair stays icy blonde and my hair really has never been healthier!
Lip products have not always been at the top of my list, but lately I have been finding myself wandering the lipstick aisles of beauty stores trying to find the perfect pink shade that works with my skin tone. I am SO picky when it comes to my lipsticks and glosses. The formula has to be smooth, hydrating, and the perfect shade of pink. Does such a lip product exist? Sounds like a unicorn to me….
And while the perfect lip product may not exist, I have several lip products in my bag that may come very close to perfect.
MAC Lipstick Satin in Snob: This is literally the perfect pink when you want just a little bit of color. It’s such a beautiful light neutral pink and goes on so smooth.
NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick: I have been using these pretties for years! If I am stumped on what color lippy to wear I always go for the NYX Harmonica (light baby pink). I’ve also been loving the color Power because it’s fun and a little funky. And you can’t beat the $4 price tag.
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick: This formula is amazing! Like any liquid lipstick, it can be a tad bit drying. I layer this on top of the GrandeLips I talked about earlier and it doesn’t dry out as badly. But this stuff wears ALLLLL day long. I went through an entire day at the office AND volleyball practice with my bright pink shade and my girls got a good laugh out of it. But this shade is SO pretty for fair skin tones and wears great in the fall!
Cargo Lip Gloss: I got this gloss in my Ipsy subscription SO long ago and I still use it. I am on my second tube (who actually finishes a full tube of gloss!?) I do when it’s this good! Anguilla is the pretty shade of baby pink and layers beautifully if you want to tone down a really bright color.
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-shine Lip Lacquer: I think I’ve talked about this a million times on my Instagram but I. LOVE. THIS. STUFF. It’s a little translucent, a little pigmented and gives the perfect amount of shine. And it smells dreamy! Are you noticing a trend with my light pink lip colors? 🙂 This color is so soft and pretty! I think these are so worth the money.
Let’s talk beauty products! Growing up I never wore makeup. Surprisingly enough, I was a tomboy for most of my awkward younger years. I played year-round basketball from second grade all the way through high school so you rarely saw me dressed up or with my hair down and you definitely never saw me with lipstick or mascara on! Things changed around my junior and senior year of high school…something clicked and I ended up winning best dressed for my senior superlative! I held that title strong through all 4 years of college in my sorority too 🙂 Needlessly to say, something happened and I became a girly girl who loved a good lip gloss and a pretty eye shadow!
There are several items over the years that have become necessities in my makeup bag. If I ever run out of any of these products I immediately repurchase them – they are just that good! Most of these aren’t “pretty” beauty products, but they allow your pretty makeup to last longer or enhance it. Here are my 9 beauty products I absolutely cannot live without:
Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Eclat’ Blur Primer: I received this YSL Primer in my last Allure box and let me tell you – this stuff is amazing! Yes, it is a bit pricey but it lasts forever. I put this on before my foundation and it leaves your face perfectly smooth and blurs your pores so you can get that airbrushed look.
Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki(TM) Brush: I never really thought how much your makeup brushes can make a difference, but this one is a game changer! I am a firm believer that you should splurge on a good foundation brush! This one has super soft bristled and really gives you a flawless complexion. I have been using this foundation but I am still searching for the perfect one for me so if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments!
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin: This is an oldie but a goodie. I have literally been using this for years and have never found something that can stand up to it. I put this one before my eyeshadow and it stays on all day and (when I am lazy and don’t wash my eyelids) all night. Highly, highly recommend if you have oily eyelids!
GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper: I am usually hesitant to use lip plumpers because I hate the tingly feeling, but this one is perfect! I HAVE to use this before I put on any lipstick or gloss. It hydrates your lips and makes your color last for most of the day. I use the clear.
e.l.f. Mist & Set Matte Magic: You really can’t beat the $3 price tag. I personally love most e.l.f. cosmetics I have tried, but this one is one I will always repurchase. After my makeup is set I spray this on my face and it makes it last all day, even during long blog shoots in 90 degree heat! I also spray this on a little brush and dab it on top of my eyeliner and eyeshadow to make it truly last all day without smudging!
Pravana The Perfect Blonde Leave-In Treatment: Now that I have balayage color in my hair I use this at least once a week. My hair has the tendency to turn brassy because it is so dark. I want the blonde in the ends of my hair to stay dull and almost grey. It is lightweight and makes my hair feel so soft. I spray it on damp sections of my hair after I shower and it works wonders! I am thinking about doing a full post on my hair care routine to combat brassiness.
IT’S A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin: This is another beauty product I have been using for years! I spray this on my hair after I shower and comb it through and it detangles while making my hair healthy and shiny. This product is the reason why my hair always feels so soft!
Batiste Dry Shampoo: I literally go through cans of this stuff! It can be expensive but you can usually find this dry shampoo at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for $4.99 instead of $7.99! I buy the big cans for $9.99 and they last much longer. I only wash my hair once a week so this stuff is a must!
What are some of your favorite beauty products you would just die without? 🙂
The day is finally here! Everyone can now shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I rounded up some of my initial favorite picks when the sale launched last week in this post. Most of these items sold out several times but are back in stock today. I’ve gotta be honest… I just haven’t been too impressed with most of the items I have ordered and received so far. BUT I will say that some great beauty deals are a part of the sale this year. I own and love some of these items and could not recommend them enough!
First off, if you get any beauty product from the sale, I highly recommend the Smashbox Duo. You save $20 with this Nordstrom exclusive! If I hadn’t just stocked up I would have taken advantage for sure. I recently discovered this par fum and I am OBSESSED! I have gotten so many compliments on this one so I may have found my scent 🙂
Speaking of great scents, every Christmas Zack’s Nannie gives us 3 HUGE bottles of this shampoo/body wash combo and we both love them! I really want to smell the Orange Pineapple one, but some of our past favorites are Senorita Margarita, Fresh Cream, and Pink Frosted Animal Cracker (OK that one was my fave…not Zack’s LOL).
There are a few items that I’ve had on my wish list for quite a while. Tempted to grab the ORIBE Gold Lust set and the OAUI hair kit because I have heard amazing things! If you’ve had your eye on some things, this is the time to pull the trigger.
This weekend we are hopefully going to relax and see some of our best friends that we haven’t seen since we moved! What are your plans besides shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
