Let’s talk beauty products! Growing up I never wore makeup. Surprisingly enough, I was a tomboy for most of my awkward younger years. I played year-round basketball from second grade all the way through high school so you rarely saw me dressed up or with my hair down and you definitely never saw me with lipstick or mascara on! Things changed around my junior and senior year of high school…something clicked and I ended up winning best dressed for my senior superlative! I held that title strong through all 4 years of college in my sorority too 🙂 Needlessly to say, something happened and I became a girly girl who loved a good lip gloss and a pretty eye shadow!

There are several items over the years that have become necessities in my makeup bag. If I ever run out of any of these products I immediately repurchase them – they are just that good! Most of these aren’t “pretty” beauty products, but they allow your pretty makeup to last longer or enhance it. Here are my 9 beauty products I absolutely cannot live without:

Yves Saint Laurent 'Touche Eclat' Blur Primer

Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Eclat’ Blur Primer: I received this YSL Primer in my last Allure box and let me tell you – this stuff is amazing! Yes, it is a bit pricey but it lasts forever. I put this on before my foundation and it leaves your face perfectly smooth and blurs your pores so you can get that airbrushed look.

Sigma Beauty F80 Kabuki Brush

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki(TM) Brush: I never really thought how much your makeup brushes can make a difference, but this one is a game changer! I am a firm believer that you should splurge on a good foundation brush! This one has super soft bristled and really gives you a flawless complexion. I have been using this foundation but I am still searching for the perfect one for me so if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments!

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Sin

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin: This is an oldie but a goodie. I have literally been using this for years and have never found something that can stand up to it. I put this one before my eyeshadow and it stays on all day and (when I am lazy and don’t wash my eyelids) all night. Highly, highly recommend if you have oily eyelids!

Grande Lips Hydrating Lip Plumper

GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper: I am usually hesitant to use lip plumpers because I hate the tingly feeling, but this one is perfect! I HAVE to use this before I put on any lipstick or gloss. It hydrates your lips and makes your color last for most of the day. I use the clear.

Elf Mist and Set Matte Magic

e.l.f. Mist & Set Matte Magic:  You really can’t beat the $3 price tag. I personally love most e.l.f. cosmetics I have tried, but this one is one I will always repurchase. After my makeup is set I spray this on my face and it makes it last all day, even during long blog shoots in 90 degree heat! I also spray this on a little brush and dab it on top of my eyeliner and eyeshadow to make it truly last all day without smudging!

Pravana The Perfect Blonde Leave-In Treatment

Pravana The Perfect Blonde Leave-In Treatment: Now that I have balayage color in my hair I use this at least once a week. My hair has the tendency to turn brassy because it is so dark. I want the blonde in the ends of my hair to stay dull and almost grey. It is lightweight and makes my hair feel so soft. I spray it on damp sections of my hair after I shower and it works wonders! I am thinking about doing a full post on my hair care routine to combat brassiness.

ITS A 10 Leave-In Plus Keratin

IT’S A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin: This is another beauty product I have been using for years! I spray this on my hair after I shower and comb it through and it detangles while making my hair healthy and shiny. This product is the reason why my hair always feels so soft!

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo: I literally go through cans of this stuff! It can be expensive but you can usually find this dry shampoo at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for $4.99 instead of $7.99! I buy the big cans for $9.99 and they last much longer. I only wash my hair once a week so this stuff is a must!

The Perfect Little Black Dress

Little Black Dress Little Black Dress Little Black Dress Little Black Dress Little Black Dress Little Black DressDRESS: The Indigo Child in Athens, GA (very similar here and love this one) | HANDBAG: TJ Maxx (almost identical) | EARRINGS: H&M (same in gold) | SHOES: Charlotte Russe

This perfect little black dress is so twirl-worthy! I am a firm believer that every woman should have a dress that makes them want to twirl. It just makes you feel good! When you first see this dress you may think date night, but I can see this dress down with cute sandals for a more casual weekend look.

Wanna know a secret? This dress is actually a beach cover-up and is completely sheer! I saw this tucked away on the clearance rack at a local boutique in Athens called The Indigo Child and just fell in love! Of course its perfect for the beach or honeymoon, but it was too beautiful to save for just vacation so I immediately started thinking of all the ways I could style it as a dress. I layered this dress over a fitted black pencil skirt and a black bandeau bra to be fully covered. I think you could also layer a dress like this over black skinnies and for fall! While this dress was a sale rack find, I found a few great options for you that are very similar and are actual dresses. This one is available in limited sizes and is almost identical; however, this one is available in all sizes and is ONLY $27!!

A little black dress is the perfect canvas for a cute clutch or statement shoes like these. These are so fun! I couldn’t wait to take them out for a spin when I finally received them in the mail. One of my favorite stores to shop great trendy shoes is Charlotte Russe. I’ve had so many pairs that have lasted me years and are so inexpensive! I also have these lace up block heels (styled in last week’s blog post). These tassel wedges are left in only one size, but there are so many more great wedges to choose from.

Stripes and Denim Cutoffs

Well if it isn’t Monday again… this weekend was a whirlwind! This past Saturday was well-spent with friends and family for both my husband’s and our little one year old niece’s birthdays. Squeezing two different birthday parties made for a very long (and tiring) day, but it was so worth it! Yesterday, I don’t think I moved from the couch and I am okay with that. I definitely needed a day to rest and catch up on Reign. Is anyone else obsessed with that show!? Just me? OK cool.

I really need to stop buying black and white stripes, but we all know that’s impossible! Big and bold stripes are my favorite for pattern mixing, but for this outfit I kept it really simple. This super soft tee with these boyfriend fit cutoffs is a perfect easy outfit to throw on for the weekend. So funny story about these particular cutoffs…I can never seem to find loose fitting shorts that are long enough for my liking so I actually ended up DIYing these. I wanted the “ONETeaspoon look” ( you know what I’m talking about….the denim diaper 😉 )without the lack of material and without the steep price. I ended up purchasing these shorts from Charlotte Russe 2 whole sizes bigger than I normally buy and cuffing the outside seams. This makes the shorts so flattering!

I sure hope this week goes by quickly…Zack starts his MBA program orientation this week so I will have to get used to being at home by myself again! Have a good week, xo!

RUFFLE TOP: Forever21 (similar here and here) | DENIM: Lou & Grey (my fave!) | SHOES: Charlotte Russe (limited size – similar here) | WATCH: Fossil (so old, but I love this one!)

It’s finally time for the weekend! Anyone else feel like this week absolutely crawled? It was one of those weeks where I felt pulled in so many different directions that I didn’t get nearly as much done as I wanted to…but this outfit makes me ready for the weekend!

This outfit is casual enough for a casual weekend, but just dressy enough for a fun date night. I am so glad that the off the shoulder (OTS) trend is here to stay. It has become the unofficial uniform of the summer, but it’s a trend that can translate through all seasons – even in winter with cozy OTS sweaters! The off the shoulder trend is so flattering and perfect for when you want to embrace the summer heat, show a little skin, but still remain classy. I stumbled across this pink ruffle top at my local Forever21 and it was love at first sight. The color, the sleeves, the ruffle! All the heart eyes! I found a very similar one here and I love this one!

THESE JEANS. They are one of my absolute favorite pairs! They are from Lou & Grey and I have never owned a pair of jeans like this. I am so picky about white jeans because they have to fit just right. These feel like leggings! They are so soft and stretchy but hold their shape, even after wearing them all day!

This weekend is Zack’s birthday AND our sweet little niece’s first birthday so we are spending our Saturday with friends and family! What are your plans for the weekend?

As most of you know I work a full time job while managing my blog. My job used to require me to come into a corporate office so I definitely needed to up my professional wear game! Even though I now work from home, “office chic” will forever be one of my favorite styles. During my time in the corporate world, I have realized that timeless pieces are the best for your work wardrobe. But timeless does not need to mean boring! You can still show your personal style at the office; it just needs to remain classic and tasteful.

I like to make sure the professional items in my closet can easily be mixed and matched with the more casual items. Some of my very favorite items in my closet are my blazers! Oddly enough, most of my blazers are thrifted finds from Goodwill or local vintage stores. Blazers can be kept professional, but also used to dress up destroyed denim or even shorts!

Another item that I will always keep in my professional arsenal is a pair of black skinny fit dress pants. I own these and they are SO flattering! My go-to office outfit: skinny dress pants, simple top, and a blazer to top it off! You also need a versatile tote that is big enough to carry your laptop, planner, 38 lipsticks, and other meeting essentials. I have a Danielle Nicole bag very similar to this one and I get so many compliments on it.

H&M is one of my absolutely favorite places to shop for chic, affordable work wear.  Most of the pieces I rounded up below are from H&M and are items that can be worn in so many different ways. There are even more professional pieces linked in the widget below!
